The Kenya Power and Lighting Company PLC (KPLC), trading as Kenya Power, is Kenya's national electric utility, responsible for the transmission, distribution and retail sale of electricity across the country, purchasing bulk power from generators (including Kenya Electricity Generating Company - KenGen) and delivering it to industrial, commercial and residential customers via its national grid. The Government of Kenya is the majority shareholder. The Company's fiscal year ends 30 June. KPLC's results have been volatile over FY2020-FY2025, reflecting foreign-exchange-driven swings in fuel and power-purchase costs, tariff adjustments, and a substantial recovery in profitability from FY2024 onward following operational and cost-reduction reforms.
