- >Every figure is a median from the ApexHub ratio engine, each company at its latest reported year. For research use only.
- >Sector snapshot: the sector median against the market median. Bank-only and insurer-only readings are compared with financial peers, not the whole market. The bar ranks the sector among all sectors on that reading.
- >Factor maps: each point is a company, plotted against the industry and market medians. The shaded box is the interquartile range.
- >Detailed comparison: ratios that are not meaningful for a sector type (for example cash conversion for banks) are hidden. In the company matrix, green is the stronger side of the sector median.
- >Leaders and laggards: ranked within the sector. Companies missing a reading are left out, not counted as zero.
Guide
How to compare NSE sectors
Pick an industry to see each of its companies plotted against the industry and market medians on the factor maps, then use the detailed comparison to line the sector up against the market or every company against each other, ratio by ratio. Leaders and laggards rank the sector on each measure.
Which ratios matter in each sector
Banks are read on net interest margin, cost to income, the NPL ratio and capital adequacy. Insurers are read on the claims ratio and insurance service margin. Manufacturers and consumer companies are read on gross and operating margins, asset turnover and debt. Ratios that mean nothing for a sector, such as working capital for a bank, are left out.
Why medians, not averages
A sector median is the middle company, so a single outlier, a loss-maker or a one-off gain, cannot drag the benchmark the way it would an average. Most NSE sectors have only a handful of listed companies, which makes that matter more than on a larger market.
